Founding Vision

The story of Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish, Phase 6, Trans-Ekulu is a testament to faith, perseverance, and community growth. The parish was established to cater to the spiritual needs of the growing Catholic population in the Phase 6 area of Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. Before its establishment, residents of Phase 6 worshipped at other nearby parishes, such as St. Mulumba Catholic Church, Trans-Ekulu, and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church, GRA, which made access to regular Mass and parish activities challenging, especially for families and the elderly.

Seeing the need for a closer worship center, faithful Catholics in Phase 6 began gathering for prayers and occasional Masses in homes, open grounds, and makeshift structures. With the support of the Nkwo Deanery under the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, the movement to establish a permanent parish became more organized and focused.

Establishment as a Parish

Through the encouragement of clergy and lay faithful, and with the blessing of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish was formally erected as a parish. The new parish was named after Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi, a model of Nigerian sanctity and devotion, whose life continues to inspire many across the country.

The foundation of the church structure was laid with contributions from parishioners, benefactors, and support from the diocese. The parish quickly grew in numbers and activity, drawing Catholics from surrounding neighborhoods and new families settling in the Phase 6 area.
